Selection Bias presents: The Year of Magical Listening
Dear friends,
This isn't a proper newsletter, just some quick news: I've started a music podcast, and I'd love for you to listen.
The show is called The Year of Magical Listening, and it's a show about the joys of discovering new music. Each episode is a short audio essay on a record that I recently heard for the first time and that, for whatever reason, captivated me. Sometimes these are new records, sometimes they're older ones; sometimes they're obscure records, sometimes they're the biggest song of the summer.
The show's aim is to capture something of the thrill I felt when I first heard this music, and something of the beauty I still hear whenever I listen. I have no grand plans for this show beyond continuing to make it as a labour of love, but I hope you will enjoy listening to it, either as a way of discovering new music, more deeply appreciating known music, or simply learning new ways to listen.
This week I released the first five episodes, which run the gamut from Persian drumming to roots music to string quartet to trap to new age spirituals. You can find them all on the show's website, or through the links below:

And if you do listen, I'd of course love to hear what you think, so please feel free to drop me a line any time.
Till next time, happy listening,
W
